2017 Summer Solstice BBQ

Humanist Ottawa held its annual Summer Solstice BBQ & AGM at the beautiful home of two of its most active members, Richard and Rejeanne. Live music was provided and everyone enjoyed the food & drink, despite heavy rain.

Humanist Ottawa presented a lecture on marijuana legalization.

On March 24, 2017, Humanist Ottawa (the Humanist Association of Ottawa) presented a public lecture where Eugene Oscapella, an Ottawa lawyer and a lecturer on drug policy in the University of Ottawa Criminology Department, described many of the reasons for moving away from a system of criminal prohibition to a legal, regulated market in cannabis and how potential changes in the law will affect Canadians and others around the globe.

Humanist Ottawa Supported Electoral Reform

On October 26, 2016, Humanist Ottawa (the Humanist Association of Ottawa) took part in the public consultations done by the House of Commons Special Comittee on Electoral Reform. Our president, J.P. Westlund presented a stament that was drafted by some of our members to the comittee. You can watch the video here. J.P. Westlund's statement can be found just after the 20:17 mark.

2016 Winter Solstice

Humanist Ottawa held its annual Winter Solstice potluck in the traditional place. Members enjoyed delicious food and conversation as well as board games and a casino table!

2016 Summer Solstice BBQ

On a beautiful July afternoon with only a few tiny (refreshing) sprinkles of rain, the members of Humanist Ottawa got together for our annual summer barbeque, which was generously hosted by Diane and Peter. After a few worries about whether the gas grill would light (it was the first time it was used in the season), things were off to a good start, and the beer, wine, and soda were flowing. It was great seeing longtime members mixing in with new members, and lively conversations were happening up on the deck as well as in the beautiful backyard garden. Everybody liked J.P.'s choice of burgers and he promised to provide them again next year. Here's another one of our many shameless group photos, to commemorate the occasion!

Remembrance Day 2014

Humanist Ottawa joined atheists in Ottawa and around the country in remembering the sacrifice of Canada's soldiers past and present, and struggling with the recent tragedy at the very place at which we all gathered to remember. We regret the necessity of war and look forward to a more peaceful future.
